Kenia: Marktbericht vom 5. August



Kenia, 6. August 2014 — The bourse closed with the NSE 20 Share Index once again breaching the psychological 5,000 points to close at 5,003.36 points, while NASI was up by 1.15% to 155.39 points. Noticeable price gains were witnessed across most counters, with the banking sector leading the winning spree. Volumes traded were up by 118.30% with Safaricom being the major booster. Turnover edged up to KES 902.83Mn (+89.32%) while market cap closed at KES 2.18Trn.

The banking sector saw KCB coming in as the day’s top gainer at KES 58.50 (+4.46%), with foreign investors being heavy on the buy side. Most banking stocks were bullish with the exception of Barclays, CFC, Equity and StanChart that held at their previous close. Equity, Co-op and Barclays also elicited foreign participation that was heavily inclined towards the buy side.

The insurance sector saw most stocks record heightened activity in anticipation of the half year results. CIC was the sector’s top mover to trade on 1.13Mn shares, while all the counters in the sector gained momentum. Britam came in as the day’s top mover at KES 23.75 (+3.26), while the sector’s index closed at 184.82 points from 183.51 points.

The energy sector exhibited mixed performance with KPLC being the only gainer at KES 13.45 (+2.67%), while KenGen and Total contracted. The rest of the counters held at their previous closes. Safaricom was not to be left out in the winning streak as it closed at KES 12.60 (+0.80%), with the counter moving 22.65Mn shares up from yesterday’s 4.69Mn shares. The counter recorded heavy foreign activity on both the buy and sale side.

Sameer Africa announced its H1 2014 results with a 98.76% decline in PAT to KES 80.96Mn, while issuing a profit warning for the full year results. The counter closed at KES 7.6 (-4.61%)

T Bonds:

The bonds market saw bonds worth KES 3.30Bn traded compared to yesterday’s KES 4.15Bn.
